Glossary

For everyone: terms used across the Sleev course app.

Level : The biggest unit of the course (for example, a semester of the Diploma). Levels are unlocked in order; a student can only see what's inside a level once it's been granted.

Module : A named part of a level, holding a set of lessons and, usually, its own resources.

Lesson : A single page of course material within a module, with a PDF to read and a button to mark it complete.

Resource : A file attached to a module rather than to one lesson — an introduction, an appendix or a handout.

Assignment : A piece of work attached to a lesson or a module that a student submits for grading. A lesson or module can have more than one.

Submission : A student's response to one assignment. Each student has exactly one submission per assignment; re-uploading while it awaits grading replaces the current attempt's file, and a new attempt starts only once the work has been returned for revision.

Attempt : One uploaded file within a submission. The full history of attempts — files, grades and return notes — stays visible to both the student and staff.

Return : When a grader sends a submission back for revision instead of grading it, with a note explaining what needs to change. The student then uploads a new attempt.

Grant : Giving a student access to the next level.

Revoke : Taking back access to the last level a student was granted.

Nudge : A short reminder message sent to a student, one at a time or to several at once, delivered by email and in-app.

Announcement : A message posted to a group of people — everyone, a role, or everyone currently on a level — visible in-app to its recipients and sent to them by email.

Teaching admin : An admin account also labelled as faculty. It's counted among faculty on dashboards and included in faculty-wide announcements; its access is otherwise the same as any other admin's.

Carried over : Progress recorded for a student who was already partway through the course on Moodle before moving to this app. Staff enter it directly rather than the student completing it here, and it's flagged so it's clear where it came from.

Completed on Moodle : A status given to an assignment that was already finished on Moodle before a student moved here. It's closed to new uploads and may have the original Moodle file attached; grading for work done after the move starts fresh.

Content repo / Manual : Whether a piece of course content (a level, module, lesson or its description) came from the course's content repository on import — in which case it's locked to match the source — or was created directly in the app by an admin, who can edit it freely.
